Director’s Welcome

UCLA’s history of research and training in medical informatics goes back several decades, starting in the 1980s with the genesis of what are now foundational ideas in clinical and imaging information systems.

Since that time, we have led in the development of technologies and methodological developments aimed at transforming biomedical research and healthcare processes through the lens of informatics.

Over this period, medical informatics has evolved into a rich discipline representing a full spectrum of activities, from conceptual frameworks through to more applied research and evaluative studies.

UCLA is a place for envisioning the future of healthcare: what should it look like in a decade, and how can technology make it better?
